Langtang Hand-woven Guitar Strap
Hand-woven on a backstrap loom in Thulo Syabru by the Langtang women — a geometric meander in jewel-bright thread, finished with full-grain leather ends and a steel-pin tail.
The weave is the same one the women of Thulo Syabru have used for blankets, sashes, and shoulder bags for generations — a tight, low warp on a small backstrap loom, worked in the afternoon sun while the children play nearby. We have only changed two things: the length, so it fits across a shoulder over a guitar, and the ends, where the soft cotton is sewn into a panel of full-grain leather with a steel pin and an adjustable buckle. Each strap takes the better part of a day to weave and another half-day to finish. The geometric pattern — a stepped meander threading through bands of bright colour — comes from the older textiles of the valley; you will see the same motif on the borders of a wedding blanket or a festival sash. Available in six colourways; made to order so the weave is fresh when it reaches you.
Care notes
Treat the piece as you would a small instrument: dust often, polish rarely, and let it rest when not in use. With time, a quiet patina forms — this is welcome.
Hang or lay flat between sessions
Hand-woven cotton softens with use. Keep out of prolonged direct sun and let the strap rest unfolded.
Damp cloth, no soaking
If something brushes the band, blot with a clean damp cloth and let it dry flat. The dyes prefer cold water and short contact.
Condition once a year
A small amount of neutral leather conditioner on the end panels keeps the grain supple. Avoid the woven band.
